Bottled Water
Bottled water
Most bird owners will opt to use bottled water over tap. It could be the ‘thought’ that bottled water is better for you. If you have a bad well, or contaminated water supply then indeed bottled water is better. While the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates the quality of our public water supplies, the EPA has no authority over bottled water. After bottled water crosses state lines it is actually classified as a food product and therefore is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) .
The FDA regulations for bottled water dictate:
* What bottled water can be called (Standards of Identity),
* How bottled water can be produced (Good Manufacturing Practices),
* What can and cannot be on the label (labeling requirements), and
* The contaminants for which bottled water must be tested along with the allowable limits for each (Standards of Quality).
Its been noted as much as 40 percent of bottled water is actually bottled tap water. Purified and Bottled water can be drawn from any source as long as it is subsequently treated. Most bottled water companies must have in writing on the label where the source of water is located, as not to mislead their customers with pretty pictures.
